Romano Ravasio
Art Consultant. An expert on trends in the art market and falsification issues, he is the curator of important private collections.
Until 2006 he was assistant director of the Bandera Foundation, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Busto Arsizio, near Milan. He has been the curator of the Museo Treccani in Milan and of the Pellin Foundation in Varese, near Milan. He established and runs the Corrente Archives, a project for the cataloguing and comparative study of the key figures in the Corrente movement.
Among the first in Italy to specialise in the restoration of contemporary art, he has conducted experimental work that has been the subject of degree theses by students of the Faculty of Letters at the University of Milan and the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Palermo.
The study of private collections. After experience gained as a conservation expert in the most important European museums, in 1995 he founded Art Consulting, the first organization in Italy to apply the strict rules of museum management to the creation and administration of major collections, often successfully resulting in prestigious exhibitions and monographic publications. Among these we will mention:
1998, Corrente e oltre. Opere dalla collezione Stellatelli. 1930-1990, Charta, Milan;
2000, Renato Guttuso. Spes contra spem. I capolavori della Fondazione Pellin, Electa, Milan;
2007, Arte italiana contemporanea. New Entries, Arte-2000, Milan;
2009, Zhang Dali. Il sogno proibito della nuova Cina, Argo, Turin.
Thanks to his ability to analyze trends in the art market, gained by continually monitoring fairs and galleries on the international panorama and studying the new artistic movements that are gaining ground, he is responsible for acquiring works for prestigious collections in Italy and abroad. His background of scientific experience enables him to conduct meticulous screenings to eliminate forgeries from the market. Many collectors have found him to be a Personal Art Consultant well able to assist them with all the issues involved in creating and managing a great collection.
New projects. Within the project for the international expansion of Art Consulting, he handles the study of the state of emerging markets and the extension of the Network into new marketplaces.
Currently, together with Marina Pizziolo, he runs the Art Fair Preview project: this is a sophisticated series of services designed for collectors, in association with the most important art fairs in the world.
